Seventh Blog - Finishing Up

3 - 25 - 19

Hello again, and welcome back to my blog! Since February is over, we have finished our photo booth. We made just enough to pay back for everything we spent on the booth. Unfortunately, we didn’t make any extra profit, which is okay! But since all of the money we made back was used to repay for our expenses, we don’t have any to give to the drama club. I figured I would explain that since we mentioned giving back to them! Anyways, our photo booth wasn’t hugely successful, but most of the people that came said they enjoyed it, maybe even a little more than a regular selfie! That makes me so glad that we got people to change how they think of selfies, and that we reached our main goal! We don’t have much more to do for our project, and our presentation is just around the corner. We have just around another month left until then, but loads of work ahead. Even though this project might not be as outstanding as we started, I think we still reached our main goal of showing how addicted most kids (and adults) are so addicted to social media and technology as a whole. That’s really all for now, since we have yet to start our presentation. Thanks for reading my friends’ and I’s blogs!

6th Blog - Photobooth!

2-8-19

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! Our project has gone pretty well so far. We started our photobooth this week, and we plan to continue it on every Wednesdays and Thursday of February! After each customer took a photo and gets their polaroid we asked them if they prefered it over a regular selfie. Of course a selfie is usually more affordable and easier, but what we are asking is if they liked the experience more! With everyone we asked, we got that 4 people liked the polaroids more out of 6. We sold each photo for $1 and 3 for $2. Hopefully next week we will be able to get even more people and opinions! Anyways, me and Elysia have been spending lots of time helping to paint backdrops and other props for our Musical coming up in March. We also have been writing our elevator pitch for our project, which is basically just a 30 second speech summarizing our project. We will have to memorize and present our speeches to the class individually next week. That's pretty much everything caught up so far, and I can't wait to continue!

Fifth Blog - Ideas!

1-23-19

Sorry in advance for the late blog! Anyways, for this blog I'd like to talk about our plans for the future of this project. First off, me and Elysia went to our first play meeting afterschool last weekend! We also have meetings again this week! I really haven't had much time to sit and watch a whole lot of youtube or anything, so that's great! I also have had practices twice a week, so it has been way easier to limit my technology usage. This brings me to our next topic, a photo booth! Our group has decided to set up a photo booth during lunches using my polaroid camera. Elysia emailed our principal to seek approval and we can't wait to get an answer! If we can do this, my Aunts agreed to help me set up a booth or backdrop and Elyisa and Aiden will help chip in the costs for each film! Anyways, that's all for this week, Bye!

Fourth Blog - Happy New Years!

1-4-19

Welcome back to my blog! I know this might be a tad late but happy New Year as well friends. My group mates and I haven’t worked on this project in a hot minute, so it’s nice to be back! Today’s blog is going to be about our plans and resolutions for this project seeing as it is now 2019! Our original plan for this project was to study how much technology affects our lives and to spread this information to our community. So far, I think the project has gone pretty slow. We have studied quite a bit about technology this day in age, and if you would like see that I would recommend you go check out our past blogs. Anyways, we have also collected data on our technology usage in a daily school week and graphed it. We have all the information we need, so I think it is time we start coming up with ways to manage our time spent on our phones and other devices. This year I can’t wait to start managing my time with technology, and to find ways to pass time without it. Me and Elysia have signed up to help with the school’s upcoming play and can’t wait for our first meet! Our group has also talked about hosting a game night and hopefully we can get some more friends to join! Anyways, I know this project has been a bit slow but I can’t wait so start moving and even start on our TED talk in April! Bye guys, and again, happy New Years!

Third Blog - Data Time!

12-1-18

Hey guys! It's Kaitlynn again. This past week I've been collecting data on how much technology we've used and have made a graph. I guess the rest of the group didn't post their graphs but I'm going to anyways. At first we were going to make graphs online, but then Elysia said that we should hand draw it so we could try to be less dependent on technology. I mean its more work but I agreed because it is a cool idea! So anyways, you can see my graph at the bottom. I categorized it as technology at school and technology at home. School was pretty small because I only ever get on when I need to for tests, or assignments. At home though, I would usually watch youtube, or play the Sims 4. On Thursday and Friday I even watched the Sopranos with my dad for a couple hours. On Monday and Wednesday I didn't get home until around 5 so obviously those times were a bit less than the rest, but for the most part I was on for around 3 - 4 hours a day after school. Wow, I guess you never realize how much you're on until you record it! Anyways, if you think I'm bad Aiden probably has atleast twice the amount. You should check out their blogs and what they have collected! See you guys next week and hopefully we will all have our data posted by then!

Second Blog Research!

11-20-18

Hey guys! Next week we all plan on starting to collect data on how much technology we use in an average school week. We would start this week, but its Thanksgiving break. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Anyways, since we can’t start just yet, we are going to do some research on technology itself. Elysia and Aiden are looking into excerpts from the book Reclaiming Conversations. I am looking further into the TED Talk told by the author Sherry Turkle. In this TED Talk Sherry talks about how technology changes what we do and who we are. She explains how things that used to be seen as rude, like using your phone at the dinner table, are seen as the new norm.  People want to be together but also away from each other, meaning they don’t want to be in physical contact but instead behind a screen. With this many kids nowadays lack the idea of being social in real life. This is probably because with texting and tweeting and other social media we can present ourselves as how we want to be seen as. During her presentation she states one thing that really stuck with me, and it was “We expect more from technology and less from each other.” I really agreed with not only this, but the entire TED talk. It was super informational and I highly recommend taking a look at it when you have free time. Anyways, hope you all have a good day and thanks for reading my second blog on our project!

First Blog!

Hello! My name is Kaitlynn and I go to Civic Memorial High School. This is my personal blog about my part in our 20-Time project. Our project is about how many adolescences in this generation do not manage their time with technology well, and different ways to manage it better. The other two group members are Aiden and Elysia, and we are all excited to start this project! Anyways, in our project we plan on studying how many times we see someone get on an electronic daily. Over about the course of a week, we will take notes when we see peers get on an electronic, family and friends at home get on an electronic, and ourselves. After that we plan on learning about the preferred amount of time to use technology daily and conduct an experiment on ourselves to only get on for a certain amount of time and record it. If this all goes well, we plan on challenging others to take on the task of spending a whole week with a limited time for technology and record it all and send it to us. Personally, I do use technology a lot in my life and do think it will be hard, but hopefully this will show me how unhealthy it is to use electronics and depend on them so often! With the information we gain in the next few months, we hope to show everyone about how much electronics are depended on in this generation!
